Keenan Comartin, OCT, BA, MMus
EDUCATION
Keenan Comartin holds a Master of Music degree in Guitar Performance from the University of Ottawa, a Bachelor of Arts degree from Laurentian University, a Diploma in Music Performance from Cambrian College, and a Bachelor of Education degree from Nipissing University. He has studied guitar with Patrick Roux, Philip Candelaria, Louis Trepanier, and Arturo Parra. He is especially interested in arranging and performing new music and chamber works.
TEACHER
Keenan teaches at Cambrian College and serves as an occasional teacher for elementary and secondary schools in Sudbury. His background in education and in music has led him to develop a new approach to teaching music classes using his own arrangements of popular/rock music and adapting materials to ensure all students can participate, create and enjoy music.
PERFORMANCES
Keenan has experience performing throughout Europe and North America with the Sudbury Guitar Trio (SGT). SGT made their international debut this year performing in Netherlands, Italy, and USA. The SGT is excited to receive a number of commissions for new works for guitar trio expected to premier during the summer of 2014. Keenan has been involved in a number of recording projects with his guitar duo and trio. His contributions to Sudbury Guitar Trio extends to arranging popular music for 3 guitars including arrangements of The Final Countdown, Billie Jean and songs from groups like The Ventures, The Beach Boys and David Bowie.
SUDBURY GUITAR SOCIETY
Keenan is a co-founder of The Sudbury Guitar Society, an organization that promotes guitar education and performance in the Sudbury region. This groups produces high level guitar concerts in Sudbury and provides performance opportunities for young guitarists.
